In the story “Two Kinds“ Jing-mei and her mother have some characteristics in common despite their differences. One adjective that we could use to describe them is that both of them are stubborn. They refuse to change their mind despite the pressure to do so. They are both difficult to deal with. Jing-mei's mother won't change her mind about how she wants her daughter to be a child prodigy and even though Jing-mei does bad in the recital and she does not want to play the piano anymore, her mother doesn't care and she continues to insist with the piano lessons. Jing-mei doesn't care about the piano lessons and she is determined to do what she wants, even though her mother is pressuring her, Jing-mei won't change her mind about quitting. Another adjective that can describe both of the characters is selfishness. Jing-mei mother doesn't care about her daughters wishes, she's not considering her opinion, she's just forcing her to do something she doesn't want to do so she could feel good about herself. Even though Jing-mei does not want to be a child prodigy, she refuse to see that maybe her mother is doing her a favor, that she doesn't have bad intentions she just wants her to grow up having a wonderful life. The truth is that both characters didn't handled well the situtation. It is difficult to deal with a person that is so much like you but there is always a way to handle things. Maybe if Jing-mei mother had asked her what she liked or what she wanted to do, this would have gone different, without Jing-mei confronting her mother.

  1. Karina,
Good reflection but you needed to write a 300 word essay, separated into paragraphs and with a main idea, and a title. You can expand this to make an essay ...
