In the story “Two Kinds“ Jing-mei and her mother have some characteristics in common despite their differences. One adjective that we could use to describe them is that both of them are stubborn. They refuse to change their mind despite the pressure to do so. They are both difficult to deal with. Jing-mei's mother won't change her mind about how she wants her daughter to be a child prodigy and even though Jing-mei does bad in the recital and she does not want to play the piano anymore, her mother doesn't care and she continues to insist with the piano lessons. Jing-mei doesn't care about the piano lessons and she is determined to do what she wants, even though her mother is pressuring her, Jing-mei won't change her mind about quitting. Another adjective that can describe both of the characters is selfishness. Jing-mei mother doesn't care about her daughters wishes, she's not considering her opinion, she's just forcing her to do something she doesn't want to do so she could feel good about herself. Even though Jing-mei does not want to be a child prodigy, she refuse to see that maybe her mother is doing her a favor, that she doesn't have bad intentions she just wants her to grow up having a wonderful life. The truth is that both characters didn't handled well the situtation. It is difficult to deal with a person that is so much like you but there is always a way to handle things. Maybe if Jing-mei mother had asked her what she liked or what she wanted to do, this would have gone different, without Jing-mei confronting her mother.

Eye in the Sky: Should they Strike?
The movie “Eye in the Sky” is about a British-US task force
targeting a house with terrorists in Kenya that they’ve been looking for 6
years and they are about to commit a suicide bombing and kill hundreds of people.
They have to airstrike but when they are about to do it, a little girl puts a
stand outside the house and the missile can kill the girl so it is all about
should they do it or should they wait. We can find multiple themes in this
story. One of them is terrorism, since the movie explores a dilemma against
terrorists and it is all about saving the civils that are going to die in the
suicide bombing. But it is also all about moral ethics. If they strike they
will save many lives but if they don’t they will save only the little girls
life. There is a conflict between the government and the officials, they don’t want
to be the ones who killed an innocent girl because it would look very badly to
the world, but they also don’t want to keep their arms crossed and do anything
for the other 80 people they could’ve saved. Some of them think the ethical
thing to do is to not do anything and others think that they should strike
because is one life against many more. They did everything they could to save
the girl but and the politicians agree to strike because the Colonel said it
was only 45% that she could die. So they strike and when they do the little
girl dies. Some of them celebrate that they could finally target the terrorist
but the ones who were against the strike feel a lot of guilt and sadness. The
struggle between the military and political officials reveals the tension among
the need for safety, public relations, the rights of citizens and threat to
innocent life.
